Andrew Byerly was born in Germany in 1715 of French descent. His family having been scattered in Germany and England by the religious persecution of that day.

In 1730 his brother Michael came to Lancaster,Pa, and in 1738 Andrew arrived at the same place. There he married an Anna Catherine, last name unknown. She apparently did not live long afterwards and Andrew married the second time to Beatrice Kuhl, daughter of John Kuhl.

To the second marriage were born Michael 1748; Catereine born 1750; Maria, born 1752; Francis born 1754. Of these, one of the girls married a man named Miller and the other married Christian Fleeger who located in Butler County Pa. where the Fleegers live today.

After the death of Beatrice about 1755, Andrew married Pheobe Gulden and to this wife were born Jacob, Andrew and Joseph.

The Byerly family dates back to a Roman Tribunal under the old Roman Empire of 49 B.C. The first Byerly in American history was Thomas Byerly who came from England in 1704 to New York where he was Receiver General of that Province and also one of the Proprietors of the Province of New Jersey.

Three sons of Andrew Byerly served [i]n the Revolutionary War, Michael, Francis, The records of Francis and Jacob are very clear for their services in the war are well recorded.

Other Byerlys who were no doubt closely related to Andrew Byerly at Lancaster were Jacob Byerly and Casper Byerly who were founders of large families that scattered all over the United States. Another Byerly family located in North Carolina and from this family came D. Perry Byerly, great astronomer of Berkley, Cal.

Andrew Byerly served with CO. George Washington at Braddock's defeat in 1755 and in 1759 established Byerly Station on the site of the Bushy Run State Park. He is buried at or near Strousburg in Lancaster, Pa. His third wife, Phoebe married after his death Ben Lord and later a man named Walthour. She is believed to be buried at Brush Creek where her sons Jacob, Michael and Joseph are buried. Franci[s] is buri[e]d near Parnassus, Pa.

Andrew Byerly was a scout [fo]r Col Boquet in the battle of Bushy Run. March 24 1759 Andrew Byerly is listed as a sergeant in Boquets company--second division Roya[l] American Regt. at Fort Bedford.
